The awards are given in various categories, including album of the year, best newcomer, best artists (male and female) and the best duo or group.
Miriam Makeba was the first African to win a Grammy Award. Tyla became the youngest African to win a Grammy after receiving the inaugural Best African Music Performance. South Africa produced twelve Grammy Award winners. Phil Ramone is the most honoured with fourteen accolades, followed by Ladysmith Black Mambazo with five. [2]
