PU is still the most used material in surf board construction today. Polystyrene (PS foam) with epoxy resin has a lower weight, but is not as strong as the more traditional PU foam. The PS foam core is therefore enclosed with a layer of epoxy to increase strength. Within polystyrene, mainly two types are used in surfboard construction; EPS and XPS.
