1928 Olympic Games are the first to feature women's athletics. There are only five for this edition compared to 22 for men: the 100 metres, 800 metres, 4 × 100 metres relay, high jump and discus throw. The 800 metres will be subsequently viewed as too grueling for women and not featured again until 1960. [1]
