Mission Bay went 13–0 and won the CIF San Diego Division IV title in 2009. Baxter won the prestigious Silver Pigskin Trophy, awarded annually to San Diego County's most outstanding football player, chosen by KUSI television's Prep Pigskin Report. Frye attended Mission Bay High School and began his professional surfing career in 1958. His first board was a balsa board shaped by legend Mike Diffenderfer. He rode professionally for G&S surfboards and eventually created his own model for them in 1967.
