Mount Wutai, also known by its Chinese name Wutaishan and as Mount Qingliang, is a sacred Buddhist site at the headwaters of the Qingshui in Shanxi Province, China. Its central area is surrounded by a cluster of flat-topped peaks or mesas roughly corresponding to the cardinal directions .
Dailuoding (simplified Chinese: 黛螺顶; traditional Chinese: 黛螺頂; pinyin: Daìluódǐng) is a Buddhist temple located in on Mount Wutai of Taihuai Town, in Wutai County, Shanxi, China. [1] The temple has been listed among the first group of National Key Buddhist Temples in Han Chinese Area in 1983.
The temple was originally built in the Kangxi era (1662–1722) of the Qing dynasty (1644–1911). [2]Legend said that the 6th Dalai Lama once settled at the temple. [2]The temple has been added to the list of National Key Buddhist Temples in Han Chinese Area by the State Council of China.
The mountain is recognized as one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains of China. The name "Wutai" means "Five Terraces," reflecting the mountain's five flat peaks, which are said to symbolize the five elements of earth, water, fire, wind, and void. Mount Wutai is home to temples, 53 monasteries, and numerous other religious structures.1279
