The Civic Auditorium, one of the major structures in the Pasadena Civic Center District, was built in 1931 and is best known for being the home for the Emmy Awards from 1977 until 1997. It was designed by architects George Edwin Bergstrom, Cyril Bennett, and Fitch Haskell. [1] It is the former home of the Pasadena Symphony Orchestra.
Old Pasadena is the historic core of Downtown Pasadena; it has a multitude of fine shops and restaurants (Italian and Japanese restaurants are especially numerous here). The attractions in the area involve shopping, dining, and entertainment. There are two parks, the historic Del Mar Station and Castle Green, and the headquarters of Parsons.

After the Civic Center was formally planned, additional buildings were constructed in the area. These buildings include the American Legion Hall, the First Baptist Church, the Southern California Gas Company building, the Hall of Justice, the County Courts, All Saints Episcopal Church) , and the Maryland Hotel Apartments.
