Marjorie Bruce or Marjorie de Brus (c. 1296 – 1316 or 1317) was the eldest daughter of Robert the Bruce, King of Scots, and the only child born of his first marriage with Isabella of Mar. Marjorie's marriage to Walter, High Steward of Scotland, gave rise to the House of Stewart. Her son was the first Stewart monarch, King Robert II of Scotland.
In 1316 Stewart donated those lands to Paisley Abbey. [8] Following the liberation of King Robert the Bruce's wife, Elizabeth de Burgh, and daughter, Marjorie, from their long captivity in England in October 1314, Walter the High Steward was sent to receive them at the Anglo-Scottish Border and conduct them back to the Scottish royal court. One of Scotland's major religious houses, Paisley Abbey was much favoured by the Bruce and Stewart royal families. King Robert III (1390–1406) was buried in the Abbey. His tomb has not survived, but that of Princess Marjorie Bruce (1296–1316), ancestor of the Stewarts, is one of Scotland's few royal monuments to survive the Reformation. [7]
The union produced a single child, a daughter named Marjorie (died 1316), [4] who was born in about 1296. [5] Robert and Isabella's daughter, Marjorie, married Walter Stewart, Steward of Scotland, [6] and their son eventually reigned as Robert II, King of Scotland (died 1390). [7]

Robert de Brus (July 1243 – before April 1304 [1]), 6th Lord of Annandale, jure uxoris Earl of Carrick [2] (1252–1292), Lord of Hartness, [3] Writtle and Hatfield Broad Oak, was a cross-border lord, [a] and participant of the Second Barons' War, Ninth Crusade, Welsh Wars, and First War of Scottish Independence, as well as father to the future king of Scotland Robert the Bruce.
