Eureka is an 1848 lengthy non-fiction work by the American author Edgar Allan Poe (1809–1849) which he subtitled "A Prose Poem", though it has also been subtitled "An Essay on the Material and Spiritual Universe".
The title refers to the Eureka Flag flown at the Eureka Rebellion in Ballarat, Victoria in 1854. It was originally published in Truth , a Sydney newspaper. The victory song of the Australian cricket team — " Under the Southern Cross I Stand " — is said to have been inspired by this poem.
