The administrative divisions of the Dodoma Municipality are 4 divisions, 37 wards, 39 villages, 100 Mitaa, and 222 hamlets. There is only one electoral district, Dodoma Urban. The chief executive of the council is the Council Executive Director (DED), who is chosen by the Minister in charge of Local Government.

Chemba District is one of the seven districts of the Dodoma Region of Tanzania.It was formed after 2010, when it was split off from Kondoa District.
