The Bridge University was founded in 2009 as a post-secondary college. However, after one semester, the administration upgraded to a full university to meet the overwhelming demand for instruction. As of July 2011, the university has over 3,000 students enrolled with over 65 full-time lecturers and over 45 part-time staff.
St. Mary's University College was founded in 2008, as a collaborative effort between the South Sudanese Ministry of Gender, Social Welfare and Religious Affairs and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese, with the cooperation of the Volunteers' Organization for International Co-operation OVCI la Nostra Famiglia (INGO which has been continuously working in South Sudan since 1983).
The university is located in the town of Akobo, in Akobo County, Jonglei State, in the Greater Upper Nile region of South Sudan, close to the International border with Ethiopia. This location lies approximately 450 kilometres (280 mi), by road, northeast of Juba, the capital and largest city in the country. [1]
