Byrdstown is located at (36.572585, -85.137088 The town is situated in a hilly area on the Highland Rim, a few miles south of the Kentucky state line. Byrdstown lies south of the Wolf River, north of the Obey River, and east of Dale Hollow Lake, where the two rivers converge.

The Pickett County Courthouse is a historic building in Byrdstown, Tennessee, U.S.. It serves as the courthouse for Pickett County, Tennessee. There have been two courthouses for Pickett County. The first one, completed in 1890, burned down in 1934. The second and current one was built with Crab Orchard stone in 1935. [2]
It becomes a bypass around the northwest of town, known as Bradford Hicks Drive, before exiting Livingston as an improved two-lane highway and continuing northeast as Byrdstown Highway. It crosses into Pickett County and becomes Livingston Highway. Then, it crosses the Obey River, impounded as Dale Hollow Lake, and enters Byrdstown.
Below Pall Mall, the river continues westward across the northeastern Highland Rim into Pickett County, passing just east and north of Byrdstown as it flows through rolling farmland and forest. About a mile downstream from the TN 111 bridge, its water becomes slack due to the impoundment of Dale Hollow Lake on the Obey River.
