The Sahel region (/ s ə ˈ h ɛ l /; from Arabic ساحل (sāḥil) 'coast, shore'), or Sahelian acacia savanna, is a biogeographical region in Africa.It is the transition zone between the more humid Sudanian savannas to its south and the drier Sahara to the north.
This incorporates countries south of central and eastern Africa, and north of the South African border. The region has support from the most developed economy on the continent from the south, and access to capital coming out of South Africa as large companies look to expand into the rest of the continent.
The Sahel extends across all of Africa at a latitude of about 10° to 15° N. Countries that include parts of the Sahara Desert proper in their northern territories and parts of the Sahel in their southern region include Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Chad, and Sudan. The Sahel has a hot semi-arid climate.
