While in undergraduate study, Lupinacci was honored in Phi Beta Kappa and awarded Hofstra's "Outstanding Senior Scholar Award." [1] After earning his bachelor's degree, Lupinacci returned to Hofstra University to attend the Maurice A. Deane School of Law. In 2004, he received his Juris Doctor, with a concentration in real estate.
Rabinowitz was named Hofstra's eighth president on December 20, 2000, following the retirement of James M. Shuart, and began his tenure as president in July 2001.In February 2002, Rabinowitz laid out the plan to transform the prior courthouse in Hempstead to the location of the university's school of education and the school of health professions and human services.
The college was founded as a coeducational, commuter institution with day and evening classes. The first day of classes at Nassau-Hofstra Memorial College was September 23, 1935, with 150 students enrolled and an equal divide between men and women.
