Machairodontinae is an extinct subfamily of carnivoran mammals of the family Felidae (true cats), representing the earliest diverging major branch of the family. Likely originating in Eurasia during the Middle Miocene, [1] [2] they eventually spread to every continent except Australia and Antarctica.
