Balestrand is a former municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. It was located on the northern shore of the Sognefjorden in the traditional district of Sogn.

[2] Tjugum sits along Norwegian County Road 55, just west of Dragsvik, where the Norwegian National Road 13 crosses the Sognefjorden by car ferry.
In 1890, Margaret married Knut Kvikne, whose family owned the Kviknes Hotel in Balestrand. Shortly after her marriage, Margaret was diagnosed with tuberculosis; she died in 1894.
