Neptune Beach is a beachfront city east of Jacksonville in Duval County, Florida, United States. When the majority of Duval County communities consolidated with Jacksonville in 1968, Neptune Beach, along with Jacksonville Beach , Atlantic Beach and Baldwin remained quasi-independent.
Neptune Beach seceded from Jacksonville Beach in 1931 and incorporated as its own town. Ponte Vedra Beach and Palm Valley remained much more rustic into the 20th century. Palm Valley, especially, mostly consisted of farmland. In 1914 mineral deposits were discovered at Ponte Vedra, after which point it grew as the town of Mineral City.
In 1995, John Delaney became the city's first elected Republican mayor since 1887. Republicans currently hold the majority on the city council but lost the Mayor's position in 2011, only to regain it in 2015 and lose it once again in 2023. They also hold five of the city's seven state house seats and two of the city's three state senate seats.
Jacksonville Beach is a coastal resort city in Duval County, Florida, United States. The population was 23,830 at the 2020 census . [ 6 ] The city is part of group of communities collectively referred to as the Jacksonville Beaches on the northern half of San Pablo Island . [ 8 ]

The four other municipalities within Duval County (Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Baldwin) retained their own police departments. However, the Baldwin city council voted to disband their police department by 2007; at midnight on March 13, 2006, the sheriff's office took over responsibility of police services. [5]
