Hange survived thanks to Moblit's sacrifice, and works with the team to blow Reiner out of his Titan. While Eren's Titan form is seemingly unconscious, Armin challenges the Colossal Titan.
Hange appoints Armin as the next commander of the Survey Corps before going up against the Colossal Titans alone, buying the others just enough time to get the aircraft off the ground. Hange is welcomed to the afterlife by Erwin, Moblit, and the other deceased scouts. They assure Hange that the duty as commander has been fulfilled.
Things change when the Colossal Titan, a giant 60-meter Titan taller than regular ones, appears and destroys the gate, allowing smaller Titans to enter. As the town erupts into mass panic, Eren and his friend Mikasa Ackerman find Eren's mother Carla Jaeger pinned under their collapsed house. A Smiling Titan approaches and Carla begs them to flee.
