Gerald Mauroka Baker (born April 4, 1962) was an American law enforcement officer who served as Sheriff of Wake County, North Carolina from December 2018 until December 2022 at the end of term. Baker was defeated in a second Democratic primary election in July 2022 by now Sheriff, Willie Rowe.
Baker was born on June 10, 1935 [2] in Raleigh, North Carolina.He was the son of John H. Baker Sr., the city's first African-American police officer. [1] Baker grew up in Raleigh's Oberlin neighborhood, attending Ligon High School and North Carolina Central University, where he graduated in 1958. [3]

The City Cemetery of Raleigh, also known as Old City Cemetery, was authorized in 1798 by the North Carolina General Assembly as Raleigh's first burying ground. It was laid out on 4 acres (1.6 ha) of land just outside the original 1792 eastern boundary of Raleigh and bounded by East Street on the west, East Hargett Street on the south, and Morgan Street on the north.
