In April 1969, John D. Brooke founded Trinity College and Theological Seminary and in mid-1978, Trinity moved to metropolitan Evansville, Indiana, and changed its focus from offering traditional on-campus degree programs to its current emphasis on distance education, providing undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate courses for self-directed adult learners.
From 1993 until 2001 an NCEA Diploma in Theology programme was offered by St. Mary's Priory, alongside other adult education and pastoral programmes. Initially, programmes were validated by the NCEA, then from 2001, its successor HETAC , from 2004 programmes were validated by University of Wales, Lampeter along with HETAC.
The foundation has scholarly partnerships with academic institutions around the world where graduate degree students may complete their course work. The foundation is an independent non-profit body with tax-exempt status on both the state (Indiana) and federal levels. [ 2 ]

The seminary provides multiple undergraduate, graduate and stand alone courses to over 3000 students in over 80 countries. [1] As of the start of 2016 SATS has graduated 574 B.Th students, 110 M.Th students and 40 PhD students. [3]
Since 2015, the undergraduate theology programme has served a large spectrum of students, including lay women and men, and individuals from fourteen other religious congregations. The College's HIPSIR initiative was accredited by the Commission for University Education since 2007 and continues to extend its outreach.
