Troy is a city in and the county seat of Pike County, [4] Alabama, United States. [2] It was formally incorporated on February 4, 1843. [5] Between 1763 and 1783, the area where Troy sits was part of the colony of British West Florida. [6] After 1783, the region fell under the jurisdiction of the newly created United States of America.
The largest county is Baldwin (1,590 sq mi, 4,118 km 2) and the smallest is Etowah (535 sq mi, 1,386 km 2). [8] The Constitution of Alabama requires that any new county in Alabama cover at least 600 square miles (1,600 km 2) in area, effectively limiting the creation of new counties in the state. [9]

US 82 and US 231 continue onward to Pike Road, which is not a road, but a town. South of here, US 82 turns off of US 231 and US 231 continues onward on a four-lane divided highway into Pike County. There are no major junctions in Pike County until US 231 reaches Troy. Here, the route junctions with US 29, SR 10 west, and SR 87.
State Route 87 (SR 87) is a 61-mile-long (98 km) state highway that extends from the Florida state line, in Geneva County to Troy in Pike County. At the state line, the roadway continues as Florida State Road 81 (SR 81). Other cities and towns along the route include Elba, and Samson.
