After Venus and Mars, the band embarked on a highly successful world tour in 1975. Their fifth album, Wings at the Speed of Sound , was recorded and released in between legs of the tour. The album saw the first time a Wings' album featured every member on lead vocals at least once. [ 14 ]
On 23 September 2014 the album was re-issued by Hear Music/Concord Music Group as part of the fifth set of releases, alongside Venus and Mars, in the Paul McCartney Archive Collection. It was released in multiple formats: [17] Standard edition: 2-CD; the original 11-track album on the first disc, plus 7 bonus tracks on the second disc.
"Venus and Mars"/"Rock Show" is a medley of two songs written by Paul and Linda McCartney and originally performed by Wings that make up the first two songs of the album Venus and Mars. The Paul McCartney Collection is a series of 16 remastered CDs by Paul McCartney of his solo and Wings albums, with most adding bonus tracks. The albums in the collection were released separately, with the first eight released on 7 June 1993, and the remainder on 9 August of the same year.
The album was originally intended as a double with the second LP being Cold Cuts: a collection of previously unreleased outtakes by Wings. [8] The resulting album became Wings Greatest single LP despite the fact that McCartney had amassed enough successful singles by late 1978 to potentially fill a double album.
The film was finally released on 2 November 2010 as part of the box set reissue of Band on the Run, the first release in the Paul McCartney Archive Collection. It was announced in August 2024 that the film had been remastered in 4K, and was released in cinemas on 26 September 2024.
