Michelin (/ ˈ m ɪ ʃ əl ɪ n, ˈ m ɪ tʃ əl ɪ n / MISH-əl-in, MITCH-əl-in, French:), in full Compagnie Générale des Établissements Michelin SCA ("General Company of the Michelin Enterprises P.L.S."), is a French multinational tyre manufacturing company based in Clermont-Ferrand in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes région of France.
However, because Michelin chose to conclude its Formula One tire programme at the end of the 2006 season, all teams used Bridgestone tires from the 2007 season to the 2010 Formula One season. On 2 November 2009, Bridgestone announced that they would not be renewing their contract to supply tires to Formula One teams after 2010.
In February 2008, Michelin bought the remaining shares of Tigar Tyres for $47 million. With this acquisition, Michelin would become 100 percent owner of the company by 2010. In 2011, Hankook Tire Co. announced that the company will invest $1.1 billion to build a factory in West Java, Indonesia as part of a plan to become the 5th largest tire manufacturer in the world.
