In fact the original was probably over jpeg compressed. In any case the data embedded in the original jpeg suggest that photographer took a 1600x1200 picture and it was probably just compressed to minimise the image sizes on his web site. So if someone wants to follow the source links to ask for a larger version, both are probably solveable.
