Prior to the current centre being built, a smaller Karrinyup Shopping Centre was constructed in 1964 on a 0.2-hectare (0.5-acre) corner site (Karrinyup Lot 450) bounded by Francis Avenue and Karrinyup Avenue, on a 5-year lease from the Lands Department). This was built as the precursor to a larger centre expected to be constructed in the future.
Karrinyup station originally opened in September 1974.
