Taiga Saejima (冴島 大河, Saejima Taiga) is one of the four playable characters in Yakuza 4. A 45-year-old physically imposing former yakuza who was sentenced to death for having killed 18 members of the Ueno Seiwa Clan by himself in 1985. His tattoo is a tiger, a pun on his name.
Rin Saejima (冴島 りん, Saejima Rin) is the wife of Taiga and mother to Kouga. She was trained as a Makai Priestess under Priestess Garai. She would eventually meet and marry Taiga and give birth to Kouga. Her life with Kouga was short when she died of illness.

Taiga Saejima is serving his sentence at Abashiri Prison, where he learns of Majima's death. The deputy warden helps Saejima and his cellmate Shigeki Baba (Shunsuke Daito) escape. The two kidnap Taizo Kitakata (Kōzō Shioya), Majima’s supposed killer, who reveals that Majima faked his death. Baba shoots Kitakata to silence him, but he survives.
