The Ogden Corporation bought the track in 1969, and were the ones who introduced greyhound racing. [7] [8] In 1988, Ogden sold Wheeling Downs to Delaware North, [9] a global food service and hospitality company headquartered in Buffalo, New York. From 1994 to 2001, Delaware North co-owned Wheeling Downs with Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel. [10] [11]

Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack has operated greyhound races in Wheeling since 1976, while Mardi Gras Casino and Resort, formerly known as Tri-State Greyhound Park, has operated in Cross Lanes since 1985. Delaware North has noted that they make very little profit on live greyhound racing, but turn a modest profit on simulcasting. [16]

The Meadows hosted the inaugural version of the race at 1-1/4 miles (2012 m). Classic Distaff Final (1998): A filly and mare pacing event, it has been run every year since 1997. The race is conducted at various distances, all longer than a mile, and at a different track each year. The Meadows version of the race was held at 1-1/4 mi (2012 m).

The track races under the Ohio 7/7 Program which means that live racing is held at two locations in the state at the same time. During the summer Thistledown races seven races on a card and Belterra Park (formerly River Downs) races the other seven. In September, Beulah Park takes over for Belterra Park. Ohio racing is dark January to March.
