Accra Academy was founded by Messrs. Kofi George Konuah, Samuel Neils Awuletey, Gottfried Narku Alema and James Akwei Halm-Addo on 20 July 1931, at Mantse Agbonaa, a suburb of James Town in Accra. [1] The academy's founders operated the school from a one-storey house that provided classrooms for the students.

In 1986, he took up the position of headmaster of Accra Academy from Jacob Okine. Freeman, as headmaster, introduced a computer awareness programme into Accra Academy. [6] Freeman introduced and opened the South gate of the school's campus on the Accra-Winneba highway, and closed down the entry points on the East and West of the school. [3]
Jacob Korley Okine was born on 5 August 1926 in Accra. His parents were James Tawiah Okai and Dede Wusu. Okine's elementary education was at Accra United School. He continued at Accra Academy from 1939 to 1945. There, he was the headboy in his final year. [2] He studied at the intermediate department of Achimota College from 1946 to 1948
He also received Gold Coast Governor-General Lord Listowell on his visit to the Accra Academy as headmaster. [4] Konuah also served on the Ghana Museum and Monuments Board. [ 5 ] He was a member of the board of the Central Organization of Sports which replaced the Ghana Amateur Sports Council in 1961, as the governing sports body.
