Lehg II was designed in 1933 by the Argentine naval architect Manuel M. Campos, and built in 1934 in Argentina. He based it on traditional Norwegian double-ended designs, noting contemporary popular designs by naval architects Bill Atkins and Colin Archer, as well as traditional Rio de la Plata whaleboats.
Vito Dumas (Buenos Aires, Argentina, September 26, 1900 – March 28, 1965) was a prominent Argentine solo sailor and adventurer, known for his remarkable achievements in long-distance single-handed sailing. Dumas excelled in various fields, including swimming, athletics, photography, painting, and writing.
They started building inboard 2-cycle marine engines in 1903 in a barn behind the house, along with matching boats. By 1908, they were making V4, V6, V8, and V12 aircraft and marine engines. In 1910, they built the first U.S. monoplane to exhibit their aircraft engines. By 1912, their V-12 was making 180 hp, when disaster struck the factory.
