Dixon of Dock Green is a BBC police procedural television series about daily life at a fictional London police station, with the emphasis on petty crime, successfully controlled through common sense and human understanding. It ran from 1955 to 1976.
This is a list of Dixon of Dock Green television episodes from the series that ran from 1955 until 1976. It had twenty-two series of original episodes. Series one to fifteen aired in black and white, series sixteen to twenty-two were aired in colour. A total of 432 episodes were produced; 399 are missing.
The main scriptwriter for many years was Jonquil Antony, and her first collaborator (under a pseudonym) was Ted Willis, later to create Dixon of Dock Green. The lead character, Mrs Dale, was played by Ellis Powell until she left the show in 1963 and was replaced by Jessie Matthews .
The film became the inspiration for the 1955–1976 TV series Dixon of Dock Green, where Jack Warner continued to play PC Dixon until he was 80 years old (even though Dixon is murdered in the original film). The screenplay was written by Ealing regular T. E. B. Clarke, who had been a war reserve constable.
He made his name by playing George Dixon's son-in-law Andy Crawford in the long-running BBC Television serial Dixon of Dock Green for twenty years from 1955.
