The Bentall procedure is a type of cardiac surgery involving composite graft replacement of the aortic valve, aortic root, and ascending aorta, with re-implantation of the coronary arteries into the graft.
This is now known as the Bentall procedure and is widely used. Bentall taught at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School from 1959 as lecturer, from 1962 as reader and from 1965 as Britain's first Professor of Cardiac Surgery. He retired in 1985.
