Wydown/Skinker is a neighborhood in St. Louis, Missouri. Washington University in St. Louis is located just north of this neighborhood. The neighborhood is bounded by the city limits on the west, Forsyth Boulevard on the north, Forest Park (Skinker Blvd.) on the east and Clayton Avenue on the south. [2]
The city was named after James Jennings, a farmer and merchant who moved to the area from Virginia with his family and retinue of slaves in 1839. [5] In 1855, a railway was constructed which bisected the original Jennings property.
As of the 2010 United States census [10] of 2010, there were 8,496 people, 3,424 households, and 2,422 families living in the city. The population density was 933.6 inhabitants per square mile (360.5/km 2).
