In the middle of the Great Depression many banks were failing and losing hope that economic system of the United States would soon overcome this downfall. During this time, however, United Bank (then the Bank of Zebulon) became the 172nd bank in the nation to become a member of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in 1935. [3]
Between Taylor and Upson county, it has a concurrency with US 80 that ends south of Thomaston and later runs through Zebulon where it runs in a one-way pair and intersects SR 18. It joins US 41 and proceeds north to Griffin. It then proceeds through the western tip of Henry County, traveling through Hampton, home of the Atlanta Motor Speedway.
