In Crash, the thrill is in being in a car crash, not watching it, and the aftermath of a single-car accident (Ballard's) is as thrilling as one involving multiple cars. The actual forensic psychology of what they are doing is barely touched upon with nothing very in-depth said on the subject. They certainly didn't get any "couch time" in the movie.
