Winter Haven is a city in Polk County, Florida, United States. It is located about 51 miles (82 km) east of Tampa and about 47 miles (76 km) southwest of Orlando, with neighboring Lakeland located to its west. The city's population was 49,219 at the 2020 census, making it the second most populated city in Polk County after Lakeland.
The middle segment has its western terminus at Gary Road in eastern Lakeland, where it is known as E Main Street and then K-Ville Avenue. It traverses eastward toward Winter Haven, where it is called Avenue G NW, conforming with the city's grid plan and ending at US 17 near where SR 542 picks up.
SR 544 breaks off at a diagonal intersection from U.S. Route 92 (US 92) in Auburndale and heads east-southeast toward Winter Haven as Havendale Boulevard; the name derives from the two cities it connects. In Winter Haven, it straightens out eastward as Avenue T North, conforming to Winter Haven's systematic road-naming grid plan.
