Welcome to Women in Red (WiR)!We are a group of volunteer (unpaid) editors of all genders who live around the world and speak dozens of languages. Across different language Wikipedias, we focus on reducing systemic bias regarding gender representation (content gender gap) in the Wikipedia movement.

Another goal is to increase the number of female editors. Though Wikipedia is "the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit", as of 2015 about only 10 percent of editors were women. [5] [6] [7] [4] The Women in Red participants help to collate 150 work lists of red linked articles to make it easier to find and create the missing articles. [8]
Wiki Women in Red Bootcamp and Mentorship program. WikiProject Women in Red was started nearly ten years ago by Rosie Stephenson-Goodknight and Roger Bamkin.The grassroots effort welcomed editors of all backgrounds to address the systemic gender gap that showed just 15.5% of all biographies on the English Wikipedia were about women.
Each year Women in Red chooses a theme to run throughout the year. Education was chosen by editors as the theme for 2024. In addition to teachers, educators, administrators and researchers, the topic can also cover schools founded by women, schools for girls and women, and notable women alumni.
In 2023, Women in Red is focusing on peace and diplomacy as a year-long initiative. We hope both inexperienced and seasoned editors will join us in creating biographies and other articles about women who are or have been peace activists, diplomats or have otherwise contributed to the cause of peace and constructive international relations, as well as their organizations, writings, awards and ...
