ADMIN MOD. Mossberg 500 Vs Remington 870. A pump action shotgun is arguably one of the best guns for a home defense situation. The reliability of the pump over the semi-auto shotguns is something that could potentially save your life and the fact that they're relatively cheap is a huge bonus. When it comes to the combination of cheap and ...
The 590SP is a 590 with the A1’s trigger guard and barrel. Design differences. The 500 uses an aluminum receiver, while the 870 uses a steel one. The 500 barrels are generally heavier than an equal length 870 barrel, but the aluminum receiver makes an equal-length 500 still lighter. Due to the weight difference, a 500 will cause less fatigue ...
Guzzlebutt. •. 870 has the smoother action, 500 has the better safety and lifter design. Love them both. Reply reply. Dizzy-Comfortable573. •. Oddly enough it’s opposite for me, I find that the 500 action is smoother, but the 870 is easier to disassemble/maintain.
Let him shoot your 500 a little bit and let him see if he likes it. If you know someone with a 870 you all can go shoot together. The Remington 870 and the Mossbergs (500 / 590 / 590A1) have been carried by more professionals and have the most aftermarket support than any pump guns out there.
The main differences: Safety location, action release location, 500s have an aluminum receiver, 870s are steel. The shell elevators are also different. The 870s is always down, the 500s is only down when the action is back. Reply reply. [deleted] •• Edited. Mossberg's have aluminum receivers, Remington's have steel.
Blue Line Pump Shotgun = 870 Clone (All 870 aftermarket parts fit) Turknellis = Benelli M4 Clone (functionally the same but with some issues) Mossberg 88 = Cheaper 590/500. Stoeger M3000 = Same system as Benelli M2 from the same parent company. Shotguns from mainline manufacturers are pretty consistent.
The remington is steel with the safety where its supposed to be, the mossberg is aluminum with a tang mounted safety. In my opinion both have shit finish but the remington gets an edge for having slightly tighter fitting furniture. Edit: The only gun ive ever owned with a broken safety detent is a mossberg 500 20 guage. 1.
Remingtons (and Winchesters, Brownings, and Ithacas) were fancy, high-priced shotguns. So it's more like "Chevy vs. Lincoln." Mossbergs are still second-rate rattletraps. Remington introduced its 870 Express series to compete in the same space, but a standard grade 870, like the 870 Police, is still a better gun.
I've done the same to one from the "Rustington" period, and likewise it is without rust for several years now. The 870 and 500 are 7.5 lbs. on average. The 500 is more front heavy though, while the 870 is more center balanced.
