[1] Trained by the Chicago Symphony trombonists, he is regarded as someone who pushes the limits of the instrument, including performing on alto and soprano trombone. He is generally considered one of the greatest jazz trombonists [2] and credited with creating "the first distinctive and influential solo jazz trombone style." [3]
James Henry Harrison (October 17, 1900, Louisville, Kentucky – July 23, 1931, New York City) [1] was an American jazz trombonist. Harrison began on trombone at age 15, playing locally in the Toledo, Ohio area. He played semi-pro baseball, but chose music over a career in sports when he joined a traveling minstrel show in the late 1910s.
