The Sling TSi is a South African four-seat, single-engine, low-wing homebuilt aircraft sold in kit form by Sling Aircraft of Johannesburg South. [1] It was developed from the Sling 4 . The Sling TSi first flew in 2018, [ 2 ] with kits being shipped to builders [ 3 ] in fall 2018.
The company produces the two-seat Sling 2, which was first flown in 2008 and the four-seat Sling 4, introduced in 2011 [1] [2] [6] and Sling TSi which was first released in 2018. [7] The latest model being developed is a new high-wing model called the Sling HW that made its first flight in 2020.
In July 2013, a Sling 4 was flown by Mike Blyth and his son from South Africa to AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, United States, carrying 20 hours endurance in fuel. The flight included a 14-hour leg over water. [6] A Sling 4 kit was completed in four days by 40 workers from the factory, and flown at a 2014 South African Airshow. [4]
Development of the Sling 2 commenced in 2006. The Sling is a two-seat, low wing, all metal aircraft with tricycle landing gear made from composites. The aircraft is powered by an 80 hp (60 kW) Rotax 912UL,100 hp (75 kW), a Rotax 912ULS, or a 912iS engine, or optionally a turbocharged 115 hp (86 kW) Rotax 914 UL, driving a 3-bladed Warp Drive Inc propeller.
The aircraft was designed for a large cabin and ease-of-entry. The Sling High Wing has much parts commonality with the Sling TSi, including the cantilever wing design, with the major difference in the center section to accommodate the high-wing design.
