Willow goes to a local magic shop looking for ingredients to an anti-love spell. Spike, who is hiding at the back of the shop, decides that a spell to make Drusilla love him again would be a good idea. He kills the shopkeeper. At school Willow works on her anti-love spell while arguing with Xander.
Flashing back to the past, Xander, Willow, and Buffy discuss what Willow saw during her encounter with Kumiko. Willow believes that she received the message for a reason, and that they must act before they lose another slayer. Dawn, meanwhile, turns into a centaur.

Xander, wracked with guilt, is convinced something is odd about her, and has begun talking to possibly hallucinated visions of his ex-girlfriend Anya. He does not know, as Dawn later confesses to Buffy, that she is experiencing intense emotional anguish from reliving her entire life at the moment Willow brought her back.
Xander and Willow have followed him, though, and run back to The Bronze to get Buffy. There, first Cordelia, then Angel tries to come in between Buffy and Owen. Finally, Xander and Willow managed to get her to come to the funeral home by pretending to be a couple that wants to do something daring on a double date.
Willow confronts Xander about his recent behavior. Xander says his feelings for Willow have changed. He tells her that he will drop her tutoring, therefore no longer having to look at her "pasty face." Xander and the bullies laugh as Willow becomes upset and runs off. Buffy confronts Xander, but he only laughs louder before walking away.
At the same time, Xander and Buffy are looking at the body and the familiar sight makes them wonder if Willow is back after all.
