Saluda Township is one of ten townships in Jefferson County, Indiana, United States. As of the 2020 census, its population was 1,333 and it contained 589 housing units. [1] It was created by the Jefferson County Court of Common Pleas on Feb. 13, 1817. Saluda is derived from a Native American name meaning "river of corn". [2]
Monroe was the next-to-last township created by the Jefferson County commissioners. It was carved from Lancaster Township on March 11, 1842. Much of township became part of the former Jefferson Proving Ground and a substantial part of the population relocated. As a result, there are few institutions or businesses remaining.
