Cuttyhunk is the southernmost island in the Elizabeth Islands chain. The Harbor lies between Cuttyhunk and Nashawena Island to the east. To the west of the harbor there's a narrow dredged channel that leads to the deep water basin of Cuttyhunk Pond.
