HK Date Codes ---> This was talked about recently, but I can't find the posts.... Handguns: The Semi-automatic Forum
Location: Live Free or Die, Baby! There will be two letters together on the receiver. The most common HK91 is "IB" which is 1981. The "A" you refer to next to the SN is not part of the date code. Sometimes you can get fooled because "HK" can actually be a date code (1979), in addition to referring to the manufacturer.

If I'm looking at the right area, and I'm no rocket scientist, it has a date code of IB or 1B. Can somebody help me out?

Does anyone here know of a date code source for German and Italian guns? I looked in the internet and see that people answer questions about the age of German weapons from a two letter code ...
There are more letters than there are single digits. Using letters gives a manufacturer a larger range of possible serial number values. While some companies like SIG and HK have used date codes, I didn’t think Glock was one of those. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The 'N' stands for "Nitrozellulose" (Neetro-tselluloze) or "Nitrocellulose" in English. This is a universal symbol found on German firearms that use modern nitrocellulose based propellants. E-4. F-5. G-6. H-7. J-8. K-9. You can find the two digit date code under the muzzle. These onply apply to the German proof marked guns. Newer US assembled Sigs do not have the date code on them.
HK has never been known for their efficiency or size to capacity. The P2000 in stock form gives up 1 round in .40 caliber and 2 rounds in 9mm to a comparable Glock 19/23. It will readily take 13, 15 or 17 round magazines from the P30, however and those do not add a huge amount of bulk.
Normally the P292 does not have German proof marks or a date code. You need to look at the frame under the muzzle of the gun for the proof marks and date code. As I said normally they are not there on a P229. Only way to know is to call Sig. They have been very busy lately and I have heard are not answerinf that question over the phone anymore.
