This is a list of ancient Egyptian sites, throughout Egypt and Nubia. Sites are listed by their classical name whenever possible, if not by their modern name, and lastly with their ancient name if no other is available.
The Archeological Map of Egypt program is meant to provide a documentation and management tool for the Egyptian archaeological sites that are spread all over the country. It divides the information of the archaeological sites into three levels: National, Sites, and Monuments. [2]

The first sites in Egypt were listed in 1979, when five properties were inscribed. Since then, two more sites have been listed, Saint Catherine Area in 2002 and Wadi al Hitan in 2005. The latter is the only natural site in Egypt, the other sites being listed for their cultural properties. [4]

There were several maps published by related governmental authorities detailing the location of registered historic monuments that were color coded according to the period of their foundation. The first large scale map was published in 1924 by the Survey of Egypt. A second map was published in 1927.
