By 1990, SCC's student population was 10,000, up from 1,000 in 1970. [1] The Applied Sciences Building opened in 1998, designed by local architect Doug Sydnor; it is home to The Artichoke Grill. [4] The school's library was built in the early 1970s and renovated in 2015. The Cloud Song Center for business students opened in 2018. [5]
The PVCC Center for the Performing Arts, containing stage facilities for drama and music performances, opened in 2005. In 2007 the L-Building was built to house classes for Nursing, Fire Science and EMT. The building was built using a modular construction system. [4] In 2007 PVCC acquired the adjacent George L. Campbell Branch Library.
The Kirk Student Center was expanded in 1988 and a clock tower was added at the entrance in 1990. In 1999 the Paul A. Elsner Library a new larger library opened adjacent to the old, the old library building was subsequently remodeled and is now the academic support building.
Broadly speaking, the facility is devoted to student recreation and socialization. A student center or student union is the community center of the college, serving students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests. A student activity center might offer a variety of programs, activities, services, and facilities. [15]
