North Shields (/ ʃ iː l z / SHEELZ) is a town [1] in the borough of North Tyneside in Tyne and Wear, England.It is 8 miles (13 km) north-east of Newcastle upon Tyne and borders nearby Wallsend and Tynemouth.
Historically part of Northumberland until 1974, the town was a county borough which included the nearby town of North Shields. At the 2021 census the Tynemouth built-up area as defined by the Office for National Statistics (which also includes North Shields) had a population of 60,605. [1]
