Bloomington High School South (simply referred to as BHSS or South) is a public high school in Bloomington, Indiana, United States. It is part of the Monroe County Community School Corporation . The school is accredited by the Indiana State Department of Public Instruction and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Halson V. Eagleson Jr., was born on March 14, 1903, in Bloomington, Indiana. [2] He was one of six children born to Halson Vashon Eagleson, Sr. (1851–1921), who had been born into slavery and moved to Bloomington in the 1880s, and Eliza Ann Loggins, who was Eagleson's second wife and mother to his four youngest children. [3]
The school's colors are purple and gold. The school dropped its mascot, a Native American chief head, in 2001 because it was deemed offensive. The school's students at that time voted not to replace the mascot but still called the Purple Raiders. Bloomington High School participates in the Big 12 Conference (Illinois).

The Old Bloomington High School is a historic high school building at 510 E. Washington Street in Bloomington, Illinois.Opened in 1917, the building replaced another high school building from 1895, which was one of several buildings used for the local high school since its establishment in 1857; all of these older buildings have since been demolished.
