[1] [2] In 1873, it was named "Farmingdale Station" despite the fact that the LIRR had its own Farmingdale Station. The station depot itself was not built until either August or September 1873, and was located on the east side of Main Street just south of W. C. Dupignac's Hotel.

Farmingdale is a historic railroad station in Farmingdale, New York, along the Main Line (Ronkonkoma Branch) of the Long Island Rail Road. It is located just east of Secatogue Avenue, on South Front Street and Atlantic Avenue. The station has two platforms, with an underground pedestrian walkway connecting them.
Smithtown station was originally built in 1873 [2] by Charles Hallett of Riverhead for the Smithtown and Port Jefferson Railroad.In 1937, the station was rebuilt, and the grade crossing at Main Street (NY 25/NY 25A) immediately west of the station was eliminated.
