John Heck was a Canadian businessman who immigrated in 1838. John Heck was brought to Lockport to oversee the building of the I & M Canal. Bonnie Brae is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Will County, Illinois, United States. It is in the northern part of the county and is bordered to the north, east, and south by the city of Lockport. It is 2 miles (3 km) northeast of the center of Lockport and 7 miles (11 km) north-northeast of Joliet.
The downtown district of Lockport was platted in 1836, the same year that construction began on the Illinois and Michigan Canal (I&M Canal). Two years later, Lockport was designated as the headquarters for the I&M. Due to the importance of the canal for commerce, the downtown district runs parallel to it.
