Gillett is an unincorporated community in Bradford County, Pennsylvania, United States. [1] The community is located along Pennsylvania Route 14 , 9.6 miles (15.4 km) south of Elmira, New York . Gillett has a post office with ZIP code 16925.
The land was purchased by Captain John Wilcox in 1750, and quickly sold to Charles Cruikshank in 1761. The main house, built in c. 1750 and expanded several times through the 1850s, was, for the most part, built in additions by Cruikshank and his family, who added the various terraces, gardens, and most of the residence facing Cobbs Creek .
The first Euro-American settlers in the township bought tracts of land beginning in the 1790s and moved into a forested wilderness from their New England homes. The Providence, Rhode Island –based company Brown & Ives was a major player in recruiting settlers, especially to the southern half of the town.
