Upon leaving US Route 90 and US Route 98 in Spanish Fort, the route heads due east towards the town of Stapleton, where it joins Alabama State Route 59 (Gulf Shores Parkway). About eleven miles later, the route leaves the Gulf Shores Parkway right-of-way and follows a town square around the Baldwin County Courthouse in Bay Minette.

The routes swap right-of-ways and SR 59 continues along the Gulf Shores Parkway. The route reaches US 31 soon. The two routes engage in a concurrency to Stapleton. US 31 splits off from SR 59 and heads towards Mobile. SR 59 continues downwards to Loxley, where it junctions with I-10 at a Parclo Interchange at exit 44.
The railroad was built in 1859 by the Tennessee and Alabama Central Railroad linking Nashville, Tennessee and Decatur, Alabama. [4] The railroad right-of-way was abandoned in April 1986. The route passes through Hokes Bluff on its way to Piedmont. In Piedmont, the route junctions SR 21. It then turns off of its right of way, the right-of-way becoming Nances Creek Indian Boulevard. The route has no more major junctions at this point as it crosses through Cherokee County.
